NEW YORK FASHION WEEK: PRABAL GURUNG AW12

Whilst drooling over the New York Fashion week shows on Style.com this afternoon, I fell in love at first sight with Prabal Gurung's AW12 collection. I have to admit, Gurung is not a designer that has crossed my fashion radar before, but here was a pitch-perfect collection with look after wearable look that would fit effortlessly into my wardrobe.

Hell and heaven was the inspiration behind the show that started with models dressed head-to-toe in pure black and culminated in angelic gold and white cocktail dresses gilded with metallics and delicately embellished with beads.

What really impressed me about Gurung's show was the wearability of all the looks; the iridescent sleeve coat (look 1) and the blue silk skater skirt with embellished charcoal sweater (look 2) are effortlessly cool and will easily work in the modern girl's wardrobe. Here's hoping iridescent sleeves hit the high street come AW, I'm head over heels in love!

RIVER ISLAND'S SS12 COLLECTION WOWS!

When these snaps of River Island's SS12 collection pinged into my inbox courtesy of Look magazine, I got pretty excited. Whilst it's fun to fantasy shop designer collections, it's even more exciting when you can actually buy the pieces you are coveting in campaigns. River Island have got plenty of SS12 trends covered here, vibrant prints, futuristic metallics, Versace-inspired bling, 1920s style flapper dresses (very Gucci SS12) and lots of sweetly stylish lace. Personally I've got my eye on the oversized yellow tote, which looks super-luxe for a high street holdall. Hot foot it to River Island quick to get yours before it goes...

HOW TO DO THE PEPLUM SS12 TREND

One trend I'm very happy to see return for SS12 is the peplum. Unlike the pastel trend (let's face it my clothes are not going to stay pastel for very long in smoggy London), the peplum trend is very wearable and when styled correctly, flattering on all shapes. Here are my tips for making the trend work for you:

Keep the rest of the silhouette clean and simple- wear your peplum top with a capri pant ala Olivia Palermo or a sharp pencil skirt.
This is an unashamedly feminine trend so don't be afraid to embrace the peplum in ladylike shades of pink, red and peach.
Keep footwear sleek and sharp to finish the look- a pointed court is perfect.

Lets be honest, staying stylish when the weather is as cold and treacherous as it is at the moment (well, in the UK and across Europe), is nigh-on-impossible. However, out and about on my travels across London today I have seen some women that appear to be achieving the impossible (although I'm not sure I believe they are warm enough). In Chelsea the look du jour was to combine a dash of faux-fur with a Prada handbag and a Hunter welly. Discreet, chic and snug all in one look. So with the Chelsea spirit in mind, here's my pick of the best faux-fur numbers out there at the moment....

One of my favourite colours in my wardrobe at the moment is red, and with Valentines day just around the corner, there's no better time to add a dash of the colour of love to your wardrobe. Red is a suprisingly versatile colour too, pair it with neutrals or monochrome for a classic look, clash it with fuschia, orange and bright blues to make a bold statement or wear with tonal shades of grape and plum for a luxurious feel. PRIMARY COLOURS ON THE SAG AWARDS RED CARPET

One of my favourite trends that emerged from the red carpet at Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards was primary colours.

Emily Blunt, Michelle Williams and Jessica Chastain rocked bold, bright and beautiful gowns in jewel-like shades of emerald green, ruby red and cerulean blue. All three starlets have delicate, porcelian complexions that looked great against a shot of vivid colour.

It also made a refreshing change from all the safe nude and black gowns that seem to have dominated red carpet trends recently.

If the name of my blog isn't a dead giveaway, I'm a massive fan of French fashion.

Many of the French fashion classics are style staples in my wardrobe; nothing feels cooler than a Breton t-shirt, more elegant than a ballet flat or chicer than a quilted tote. And let's face it, the most iconic fashion brands originate from France (Chanel, Dior & Lanvin anyone?). CHANEL'S SPRING 2012 COUTURE SHOW TAKES OFF!

Couture has a pricepoint that is only attainable for those living a jet-set lifestyle. So maybe Karl Lagerfeld was cheekily alluding to that fact today by showing his latest Couture collection on a elaborate set designed to look like the inside of a private jet.

In front of a star-studded crowd that included the likes of Cameron Diaz, Diane Kruger and Vanessa Paradis, Lagerfeld showed a chic collection in a myriad of blue tones. Drop-waisted shapes dominated the range as did pockets- Karl even added pockets to luxurious couture dresses in an unexpected yet delightful twist.

Another trend that emerged from the show was heavy embellishment- sequins and beads adorned gowns and twinkled on tights (which girl wouldn't love a pair of Chanel embellished tights?). Another key styling detail was oversized collars, very 1950s and Jackie O in style. There's no denying the show was a sartorial success, all aboard Chanel Airlines, this collection has wings!

TALI LENNOX IS THE NEW FACE OF KAREN MILLEN

This week Karen Millen have revealed Annie Lennox's daughter, catwalk model Tali Lennox as the new face of the brand.

And judging from the first snaps of the fresh-faced 19 year old in the SS12 campaign, she looks like the perfect choice for the high street womenswear brand. I'm a big fan of Tali's strong features and unique beauty and I think she brings a contemporary feel to the Karen Millen signature look. Prints dominate the SS12 collection; floral, abstract and tribal prints look fresh and modern contrasted with bold yellow accessories. The luminscent lighting looks great with the sleek styling too. I actually used to work on the shop floor at Karen Millen, and these pictures have left me hankering for my uniform discount again!

Regular readers of La fashion folie will know I have a slight obsession with all-things neon. So you can imagine how excited I was when I came across these fabulous fruit-print t-shirts in the Boutique section of Jaeger today, complete with on-trend highlighter pen scribbles. The only downside? Choosing which of the cute prints to plump for! I finally decided on the melon print, on the basis that neon pink is more wearable than orange or yellow. It takes alot to make me wax lyrical about a shoe; Manolos, Louboutins and Jimmy Choos all tend to pass me by. But these ASOS 'Hamilton' peacock print wedges are no normal shoe, and I'm head over heels in love with them! As I keep mentioning, prints will be HUGE this season and ASOS's William Morris-inspired peacock interpretation on a platform wedge unit make for the perfect statement shoe. The combination of intricate detailing and a daring design make this shoe look much more expensive than the £75 pricetag. Surely a strong contender for the high street shoe of the season?

I know one of my new year's resolutions was to do a fast fashion detox and invest in classics, but if there's one SS12 high street collection tempting me to break my vow it's Primark's.

The highlights of the range include bold, floral-print summer dresses that tap into SS12's obsession with print and colour. WAR HORSE PREMIERE RED CARPET REVIEW

There were some great red carpet looks at last night's War Horse premiere. Here's my round up of the outfits that galloped to the front of the fashion race.....

The Duchess of Cambridge scored another style hit in this chic black lace Alice Temperley gown. The waisted shape created curves on her svelte frame, and the luxurious black lace looked very regal on the royal family's newest member.

Young star of the War Horse film, Celine Buckens, looked cute and fresh in this youthful dress from the Victoria by Victoria Beckham range. The range, inspired by cartoon character Emily the Strange, has a lower price point than VB's mainline collection and youthful feel, making it the perfect red carpet choice for teenage starlets like Buckens.

I just love the sapphire colour of this gorgeous Beulah maxi dress on Made in Chelsea's Cheska Hull. This dress is so fabulous it doesn't demand bold accessories, I like the way Cheska has kept the styling simple to let the gown do the talking.

Forget Twiggy, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell; in my opinion the most perfect fashion model to have graced the sacred pages of Vogue was Jean Shrimpton AKA 'the Shrimp'.

And the waifish, doe-eyed postergirl of the 1960s is well and truly back in Vogue, as this month sees a one-off BBC4 film about the Shrimp come to our screens. The documentary focuses on her on and off camera relationship with photographer David Bailey, with Doctor Who's Karen Gillan playing Jean. The documentary will be aired on BBC4 later this month and promises to be a 1960s fashion feast for the eyes, but nothing could compare to some of the iconic snaps of the lady herself.

FASHION RESOLUTION 3: TRY THE TRENDS!

FASHION RESOLUTION 1: EMBRACE PRINT AND COLOUR

I'm back! I hope you had a fabulous, peaceful Christmas like mine. Now it's time to look ahead to the new year, and with the dawn of each new year comes the inevitable list of over-optimistic resolutions to detox, diet, work-out and generally deny oneself life's many pleasures. Which is why I prefer to think about my fashion resolutions, which I define as 'subtle ways to enhance and improve my style and wardrobe' (...much more optimistic since they often can be fulfilled through my favourite hobby; shopping!)

My first fashion resolution? To embrace the huge S/S12 trend for glorious prints and vibrant colours, often artfully clashed. My style comfort blanket is undoubtedly neutral colours (black, grey and beige reign supreme in my wardrobe) but bright colours really work against my pale skintone and are instant mood-enhancers too! So what better place to look for inspiration than the S/S12 catwalks...

Wow! How gorgeous does Holly Willoughby look in this photoshoot for her latest collection for Very? Well the answer is very! Ouch, sorry for the bad pun but I couldn't resist.

What I like about This Morning presenter Holly is that she has her own distinctive sense of style that suits her hourglass figure perfectly. She takes inspiration from vintage 1940's and 1950's shapes when designing her collections because the tea dresses and full-skirted styles from both decades look great on curvier girls. The styling for this shoot is spot-on too, the Marilyn Monroe inspired hair do really suits Holly, she looks like an old school Hollywood screen siren.

PYJAMA PARTY

The must-have item that every girl should have in her wardrobe this Christmas? The festive knit? A sequin party dress? A fur-trim coat? No, no and nope. The one item that Lafashionfolie advocates every girl must have is a fabulous pair pyjamas. Because after all, if your Christmas holidays are anything like mine, you will find it hard to change out of them before 12pm most days. I had serious sweater envy when I spotted X Factor winners Little Mix in these personalised dipdye sweaters.

Good news is, we too can steal the cute-as-a-button Little Mix look, because the girls picked up their jumpers from high street giant Topshop (minus the jewelled name tags).

I personally would wear the jumpers minus the sequin details, but I'm sure DIY fashion fans will testify it would be easy enough to add your own name tags with the help of some fabric glue and sequins for the authentic Little Mix look.

HAVE YOU DISCOVERED STYLIST PICK YET?

I fear I may be slightly slow on the uptake with this one, but I've only just discovered the new online shopping destination stylistpick.com. The concept is very interesting, unlike conventional shopping websites, Stylistpick invites members to take a style quiz and then celebrity stylists handpick pieces they think suit your tastes.

The catch? Well it's not exactly a catch, but you have to become a member of stylistpick for a £39.95 monthly subscription fee, but for that fee you can pick one accessory from the site per month (£39.95 for a pair of high-fashion shoes is a bit of a bargain if you ask me). Perhaps my only criticism would be that the selection of shoes and accessories on the site is a bit limited at the moment, but hopefully that will change with time.

However, with collection designed by celeb shoeaholic Cheryl Cole and leading stylists Grace Woodward (last year's X Factor stylist) and Louise Rowe (TV presenter and former ELLE magazine fashion journalist) on board it's looks like Stylistpick has all the necessary ingredients for a style success. Pre-fall collections are launched inbetween the spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons and hit stores in May time to satisfy fashion-hungry consumers unable to wait for the new season collections to get their style fix!

And for fashion press and fashion bloggers like myself, Style.com's coverage of the pre-fall collections is a welcome source of fresh inspiration inbetween seasons. I've spent my afternoon drooling over some beautiful looks on Style.com, with the Burberry, Calvin Klein and Jason Wu collections proving to be my favourites. But it was Oscar De la Renta's pre-fall offering that really caught me eye. The 59 look collection comprised of a beautiful selection of sequin-embellished, luxurious silk and pretty print party dresses in a varied colour palette of rich purple, maroon red, classic black and pale gold.

The frothy, delicate pale-peach dress cinched at the waist (below, centre) was my standout dress of the collection, I could see a young starlet like Halee Steinfeld rocking this on the red carpet.

And for lovers of the LBD, Oscar de la Renta's came in all shapes and guises with lace, embellishment and feather details- no-one could accuse these LBD's of being boring.

The S/S12 collections are filtering through to net-a-porter.com, and the good news is, the future looks very bright. Acid bright neon reigns supreme, rainbow coloured jewels twinkle and Christopher Kane's ultra-bright t-shirts capture the mood of the season perfectly.

MY OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY OUTFIT

Those of you that read my recent post about office Christmas party fashion may be interested to see the look I decided on for my office do held last Friday. To help us prepare, we had a mobile hairdresser in the office all day which I absolutely loved because I'm hopeless at styling my own locks. I showed my hair stylist this photo of Adele for inspiration because in my opinion she has the most beautiful, goddess-like mane of hair in showbiz. The result as you can see was big, bouffant 60s-inspired hair that I loved- when it comes to hair the bigger the better!

Outfit-wise I decided to be economical and recycled my favourite sequin-embellished party top; probably my best charity shop find of all time costing me just £5! The trousers are Zara, the shoes are Office and my suave companion is our Visual Merchandising Manager, Paris. A smart trouser + glitzy statement top combination makes an economical outfit choice for the festive season because you can mix and match the pieces seperately to create different looks for all your social engagements. FESTIVE FASHION

Poor old Colin Firth. I wonder if he realised when accepting the role of Mr. Darcy in Bridget Jones' Diary that he was destined to become the poster boy for the novelty Christmas jumper? I've noticed that the film still of Firth in the infamous, hideous reindeer-motif knit is dug out each December to illustrate newspaper and magazine features on the pitfalls of festive fashion.

Unlike Mr. Darcy, it is possible to add a festive feel to your wardrobe without sacrificing your style credentials. The key to the look is opulent fabrics; tactile velvet, rich brocade and shimmering metallics all have the celebratory air that Christmas demands. I've put together some outfits below that I think would be perfect for the upcoming festive period, and not a reindeer jumper in sight...

H&M'S NEXT DESIGNER COLLABORATION WILL BE MARNI!

Start saving your pennies now because H&M's next designer collaboration has today been revealed as Marni. And the important date for your diary? The 8th March is when the Italian brand's collaboration is due to hit 260 H&M stores nationwide. As an uber-fan of the brand I'm already giddy with excitement, I have long lusted after a Marni statement necklace with that coveted black ribbon printed with the iconic white lettering. H&M designer collaborations have produced some amazing high street fashion hits in the past (although the Versace collaboration was definitely not my cup of tea); when the high street label collaborated with Lanvin last year I went as far as to book the day off work to get my hands the embellished t-shirt from the range..! The said t-shirt now proudly hangs in my wardrobe but rarely gets worn because it's far too beautiful for every day wear, god forbid I may spill red wine or tomato sauce down it (which I most likely would do).

Anyway, just for fun I've picked my favourite pieces from Marni's recent collections that I hope H&M can bring to the high street at purse friendly prices prices.

RED CARPET REVIEW: THE BRITISH FASHION AWARDS 2011

The British Fashion Awards attracted some of fashion industry's biggest and most glamourous players to London yesterday. From Marc Jacobs to Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham to Stella McCartney, all the biggest names in fashion were in attendance. This also meant the red carpet fashion was parade of looks hot off the catwalk, here's Lafashionfolie's red carpet review:

I think Olivia Palermo pulled this Matthew Williamson feather detail mini dress off with aplomb. I especially love how she accessorised her designer outfit with Topshop heels, Olivia is a big supporter of high street fashion (she's frequently photographed wearing Topshop) and isn't afraid to mix high and low end brands to create unique outfits.

Alexa Chung scored yet another fashion hit in this embellished 1960s style Christopher Kane shift. She teamed the dress with a quirky pair of Charlotte Olympia heels, adding an 'unexpected twist' to look in true Alexa style!

Wow I just love this structured graphic print Peter Pilotto dress on Amber Le Bon! I like the way she's kept her accessories simple to let the incredible dress and her super model good looks do the talking.

This dazzling metallic pleated maxi dress by Mulberry looked amazing on Tali Lennox. My only criticism would be that the 60s inspired hair do looked a bit formal, I think soft, relaxed waves would have looked cooler and younger with such a glamourous dress.

I'm sorry Abbey but I wasn't a fan of this suede Giles maxi dress with rivet detail. With the heavy make-up and bright blonde highlights the overall effect was too 'WAG' for me. Abbey is such a gorgeous girl she could make a binliner look sexy, but I'd like to see in something more fashion-forward, like the Matthew Williamson dress Olivia Palermo was pictured in above.

With the 2011 American Music Awards and InStyle magazine's 10th birthday party, there was plenty of celebrity fashion to dissect this week. Here's Lafashionfolie favourites:

I really, really loved this 1920s inspired silk Giorgio Armani dress on Selena Gomez. It may even be my favourite celebrity red carpet look of 2011! The oyster silk looked beautiful with her colouring and the retro inspired hair do gave the whole outfit an old Hollywood glamour feel. Even though the neckline was cut quite low and the skirt is slashed to the thigh, Selena still managed to look demure and stylish. For such a young starlet Gomez is making some informed style choices and I'm sure there's some great fashion to come from her.

There's no denying Diana Vickers is a natural beauty, but sometimes her casual, boho look doesn't advertise just how stunning she is. What I loved about the simple black MW by Matthew Williamson dress that Diana chose to wear to InStyle's 10th birthday is that it allowed her natural beauty to shine. The simple accessories, black heels and a Bex Rox elephant bracelet, kept the whole look simple and stylish.

Florence looked radiant when she arrived at Radio One this week in a paisley maxi dress with a navy, maxi military coat. This is such a great daytime look; the navy and burgundy tones look fantastic with Florence's shock of red hair, whilst the Mulberry Polly Push Lock bag added some designer polish to the look.

Miu Miu led the trend on the catwalk with their glitter and suede peep toe ankle boots that were seen on all the fashionable tootsies at the S/S12 shows. MARC JACOBS S/S12 COLLECTION STOLEN AHEAD OF LONDON PRESS DAY

The Independent has today reported that £40,000 of the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer12 collection was stolen from near the brand's Mayfair store on Wednesday morning.

However, there have been lots of varying reports in the papers about the true facts behind this story with the Daily Mail contradicting the Independent, informing it's readers that the ENTIRE collection was stolen from a train en route to London. The truth is, that £40,000 worth of designer fashion is unlikely to amount an entire collection, so what exactly was taken during the theft is a source of hot speculation amongst fashion insiders at the moment.

What is clear is that journalists were made aware all was not well in the Marc Jacobs camp when the label's Europen Press Officer Vanessa Barthel cancelled a press preview due to take place in the Mayfair shop. The 46 look range was due to go on show in London yesterday, giving the British fashion press a sneak peak at next year's trends. A tweet later from Marc Jacobs HQ on Wednesday appeared to confirm that garments had gone awry, reading "Thank-you all for your concern about our stolen #SS12 Collection. Onward, upward."

Whatever the truth behind the headlines may be, what is true is that cancelling showing the new season collection to the fashion press could prove costly for the label, as it could lead to fewer editorial placements in European publications and subsequently a decline in press coverage in S/S12.

It will be interesting to find out the true facts behind this sensational story as they are revealed in the press over the coming days, as there seems to be more to these first reports than meets the eye.

MODA IN PELLE S/S12 PRESS DAY

On Monday I hotfooted it to the Oui Rooms post work for the Moda in Pelle S/S12 Press Day. Moda in Pelle is the go-to brand for celebrities looking for red carpet worthy heels; X Factor judge Tulisa, the TOWIE girls and Jessie J are all fans of the brand.

So what does Moda predict it's celebrity following will be wearing for the forthcoming season?

The glitz glam 'Hollywood Heroines' range takes inspiration from the glamourous starlets of the late 50's and 60's, creating a red-carpet worthy collection that is sure to satisfy Moda's celebrity fans.The dazzling sequin and diamante encrusted courts and peep toes were the highlight of the press day for me, what girl wouldn't dream about owning a pair of these?

For beachwear, Moda are predicting Jelly shoes will still be a big trend, and I love how the brand have added their signature glitz/glam to their versions with luxe diamante detailing.

1970's fashion is still a key trend in Moda in Pelle's S/S12 collection, so there's no to need to relegate your platform heels from your wardrobe just yet! This amazing pair called 'Petty' were the stand out style in the range for me; the sky-high heel, flash of gold and coral suede recreate the Studio 54 look. I wouldn't be suprised if Tulisa is the first to snap up a pair.

Another great style with that seventies feel were these stunning striped block heel peep toes in bright coral and electric blue, surely another perfect style for celebs looking to impress on the red carpet. I expect to see lots of press coverage of this style come spring/summer.

The Daily Mail online has run a story today about Gossip Girl's Blake Lively stepping out in a pair of Christian Louboutin 'lion paw' heels. The feline-inspired furry courts come complete with raised toe sections with jewelled claws to mimic the look of a lion's paw. The new style of Louboutin are fast becoming a celeb must-have, having been pictured on fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker in August.

On Thursday I headed to Soho Gallery for the Task PR S/S12 press day.

On display were the S/S12 collections from Task PR's clients including Marc Cain, Joseph Ribkoff, Ash and Bourne.

Gorgeous, vibrant colours are abundant in Ash's Spring/Summer range. From bang-on-trend leather high tops through to glamourous platform wedges, the brand has injected a palette of covetable colours into the new season collection.

I'm just in love with the citrine yellow metallic gladiator sandals. A twist on the gladiator sandal for S/S12.

I just love a chunky statement heel, and the combination of hot pink and coral suede makes this shoe to die for!

MARC CAIN

I first came across the German fashion brand Marc Cain when I interned in the head office of a mini-multiple womenswear retailer. The company bought lots of lovely pieces from Marc Cain, and as a pennyless intern I coveted the luxurious, chic pieces that dropped in the warehouse once a week. Three years on and I'm still a fan of the label, and the S/S12 collection certainly doesn't dissapoint.

I love this navy blue knitted maxi with chocolate brown leather accessories, it has a very chic, continental feel.

The combination of crisp white with vibrant floral prints looked very fresh. This floral clutch is perfect for summer events, I could see it looking great at the races.

Forget S/S12, these polka dot cropped trousers are bang on trend for A/W11! I want!

I'm a huge fan of leopard print, and I love how the flashes of neon yellow update this sheer top S/S12. This top would look fab with some denim and Ash's citrine yellow leather sandals pictured above.

I loved this summer's flatform trend, so I'm pleased to see them back for next S/S. I love the luxe feel the suede and crocidle print leather bring to this pair.

The combination of a crisp white and forest green in this outfit looked modern and fresh.

What an amazing belt! The star cut work detail makes a simple chocolate brown leather look super-special.

THOMAS SABO EXOTIC ISSUE PARTY

Chelsea's most fashionable residents were out in force last Thursday for the Thomas Sabo Exotic collection launch party in the King Road flagship store. Lafashionfolie blogspot was overwhelmingly excited to be in attendance, and I'm not ashamed to say that was partly because of the promise of an appearance from Made in Chelsea stud Spencer Matthews.

And the night did not dissapoint, Thomas Sabo put on a glamourous event, cementing the brand's reputation for hosting fantastic parties. The dazzling oriental- inspired jewellery collection was complemented by champagne, sushi canapes and an Oriental Geisha to entertain the fashion press, bloggers and PRs in attendance. My best dressed of the night award went to Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah of Bienvenue a la Clique blog in a red blazer, dickie bow and velvet slipper ensemble.

As an unashamed uber Made in Chelsea fan, my highlight of the evening had to be when Made in Chelsea's Spencer Matthew arrived with co-star Jamie Laing in tow! The boys were in the mood to party after wrapping filming for the second series the day before, but were remaining tight lipped on the upcoming events the show, with Spencer saying 'I could tell you, but you'll need to watch to find out!'

MY LITTLE PONY HAIR HANDBAG

I love anything pony hair, its unique selling point is that it can add a touch of luxury to any ensemble. And this season it looks set to be the fashionista's du jour choice for accessories, with all the big brands bringing out ponyhair totes, pumps and belts. My favourite pony hair accessory I have spied thus far is this fantastic Marc by Marc Jacobs shoulder bag from Netaporter.com. The bag isn't made from real leather, however, but instead PVC combined with mock-pony hair effect, which does bring the price down considerably making this little baby an almost affordable 250. A quick round up of my favourite outfits from what proved to be, on the whole, a wonderfully stylish celebration of British fashion.

Victoria Beckham demonstrated how to do pregnancy chic in a midnight blue tunic dress from AW11 collection, paired with a striking Phillip Treacey hat and sky-high Louboutins. Although I'm not entirely sold on the hat, what I enjoyed about VB's choice was the fact it was understated and demure; her tunic elegantly skimmed her baby bump and took maternity wear to a whole new level of chic.

Proving there is an alternative to the meringue shaped monstrosities most bridesmaids are lumbered with, Pippa Middleton looked the picture of elegance in her Sarah Burton cowl neck form fitting white dress. I applaud Kate's brave choice to dress her bridesmaids in white, which in my opinion is much chicer than picking a contrasting accent colour. I've never seen Pippa looking quite as beautiful as she did today, she was the picture of grace, elegance and modernity.

The fashion press are criticising Samantha Cameron for opting not to accessorise her outfit with headwear, but I personally feel going fascinator free is not a fashion faux-pas. Especially when you see just how badly wrong a fascinator can look, sorry Beatrice and Eugenie. Samantha championed British fashion in her fabulous Burberry teal shift dress, accessorised with a daring orange accessories. I love everything about Samantha's look, it's pitch perfect right down to her nude platform sandals.

KATE MIDDLETON THE FASHION QUEEN

So The Times' secret source that revealed Sarah Burton was to design the royal wedding dress two months ago proved to be a reliable one, as Kate Middleton married her Prince today in a breath takingly beautiful Sarah Burton creation. Fashion reporters have been drawing comparisons between Kate's lace sleeved gown with that worn by moviestar Grace Kelly for her wedding to Prince Ranier III of Monaco. The full-skirted 1950s shape also instantly reminded me of Queen Elizabeth II's 1947 gown designed by Norman Hartnell. By drawing inspiration from such enduring fashion icons, Sarah Burton cleverly managed to create a dress fit for modern monarch.

Accessorised with a Cartier 1936 tiara ('something borrowed' from the Queen, no less), and a hand-embroidered silk tulle veil, Kate chose accessories that complemented her gown perfectly. On the day she joined the royal family, Kate Middleton was rather fittingly crowned the fashion Queen.

The fashion rumour mill has it that chief executive of the Mcqueen label, Jonathan Akeroyd, reportedly told a colleague that the company had got the commision. Sarah Burton has been Mcqueen's head designer for 14 years, and this year designed a striking red dress worn by Michelle Obama.

So if the rumours are to be believed, this is quite an exciting choice of designer by Kate Middleton. Unlike the safe and predictable choice of an Issa dress for the engagement photocall, Mcqueen is a high-fashion, high-impact brand credited with designing iconic statement dresses for some of world's top fashionistas.

Having done a spot of googling of wedding dresses designed by the Mcqueen label, I came across the above incredible gown worn by fashion writer Plum Sykes. And I have to say, I can imagine Kate looking truly divine in a creation such as this. Looks like this could be a fashion marriage made in heaven...

I could do a serious post about the Oscars fashion here, analysing the style winners (Mandy Moore, Anne Hathaway and Hailee Steinfeld are my top 3) and losers (sorry Madonna) but since the fashion press have already analysed the minutiae details of the night's looks, I'm choosing to blog about... Justin Bieber. Yes, pop's young dream Justin Bieber was at the Vanity Fair Oscars do last night, stepping out publicly for the first time with his stunning new beau Selena Gomez. Had I been 5 years younger this would probably have induced insane jealously within me, but since I'm 22 and not a brain-washed American teen, the real issue raised for me by their appearance was their choice of his'n'hers Dolce and Gabbana matching outfits; Selena's pillar box read plunging gown perfectly co-ordinated with Biebers pocket-handkercheif. I have to say, as I rule I dispise his and hers fashion, it's so cheesy and contrived and no match for two well dressed individuals. But, dare I say it, there's something out this Hollywood couple's his and her looks that just works, namely because the outfits still reflect their personal styles, or maybe because they just look cute as a button when styled together? So is his and hers fashion ever acceptable? Well as Justin and Selena prove, you should never say never (sorry!)

And the winner of the suprise trend of LFW a/w 11 goes to... crochet, and if you're thinking this is a fabric that looks vaguely familiar it's probably because you've seen it before in the form of your nanna's homemade blanket. But nostalgia aside , it appears the trend for all things homespun is set to be big next season, with Henry Holland and Christopher Kane sending their interpretations down this catwalk at London Fashion Week. Kane took the traditional craftsey throw and reworked it for the modern woman, showing it in dark hues of black, forest green and electric blue with the odd flash of aquamarine and coating it to create wet-look crochet. Over at House of Holland, Henry H went for a ironic vibe, opting for bright, poppy colours and showing crochet print playsuits, prom dresses and tights. So, if your primary school textiles class tuition of how to knit is as rusty as mine, I recommend you get knitting your crochet scarf now. Who knows, you might even be finished by a/w11....

Happy new year fellow bloggers, I hope you all had a wonderful time over the festive period. I experienced my first white, snow-dusted Christmas in my 22 years of life, which was better than any present I could have been gifted.

The dawn of a new year always brings a new outlook on life for me, and this year I have decided it is the moment to seriously re-evaluate how I consume. Food, fashion, drink; we seem to be living in an age of over-consumption which I no longer wish to subscribe whole-heartedly to. Plus the VAT increase has forced me to realise it's time to embrace a new outlook of austerity. So my new years resolution is simply to buy less, and to purchase better quality goods when I do part with my hard-earned pennies.

Of course, that's not going to stop me shopping/ reading about/ fantasising about fashion. Top of the never to be fulfilled wish-list, the luscious blush coloured Mulberry Tillie bag, 795 of anti-austerity heaven.

I've been out burning money I really don't have this weekend, as it's my office Christmas party this week (although it seems very premature to celebrating Christmas). I'm not a big fan of overspending on occasion wear, my cost-cutting outfits this year have included a £14 Tesco dress worn for my friend's wedding, a 3 year old pencil skirt worn for my graduation and a £30 River Island dress for just about every other event. My reasoning is, that there's no point spending my hard earned pennies on occasion wear when I seldom need it.

However, my upcoming office Christmas do has pressured me into buying a dress so out of my bargain-buying comfort zone, I feel slightly nauseous just glancing at the till receipt. Because when the party is being held in a Michelin-starred restaurant, with the owner of our company, who gives his name to a global jewellery brand, flying over for the event, I felt this was one occassion when I couldn't resort to Primark.

So, I bought this amazing gold brocade dress from Whistles...

THE PRIDE OF BRITAIN RED CARPET LOOKS

Last night's Pride of Britain Awards saw a star-studded line-up don their gladrags for their red carpet moment. But who were the winners and losers in the style parade? Here's my review of the celeb looks..

Christine Bleakley put her Daybreak troubles behind her last night and graced the red carpet in a black, assymetric, sequin encrusted number by Dannii Minogue's fashion label, Project D. Project D dresses are fast becoming a celeb red-carpet favourite, seen previously on Amanda Holden, Liz Hurley, and of course Dannii herself. I'm not a big fan of this dress on Christine however, the look maybe simple and tasteful but it is also doing nothing for the tv presenter's fantastic figure. The length is odd, it should either be thigh-skimming or knee-grazing, not languishing in limbo-land somewhere in between. So whilst look this isn't a red carpet disaster, it's also not winning any best-dressed prizes from me.

Next up best pals Cheryl Cole and my style crush, Nicola Roberts, walked the red carpet together in two contrasting looks. Cheryl played it safe in a floor-skimming black gown, perhaps choosing a simple gown following the criticism her recent X-factor outfit choices have recieved. I think Cheryl looks nice here- simple, grown-up and stylish. Nicola wore a gown by a favourite designer of mine, Brit boy William Tempest. I am in love with the look- the mid-calf length of this dress is bang-on-trend and the bejewelled platform sandals add a touch of girly luxe to the overall outfit. All-in-all another sartorial triumph for fashion's new darling.

Finally, whilst I don't want to be seen to be Coleen-bashing (she's had her fair share of that in the media lately), I didn't like Ms Rooney's look at all; her dress was made from some odd, shiny, black-patterned material that looked cheap and more suited to a bargain basement gown. However, I have to give kudos to Coleen for her on-trend leopard print accessories and her updo that was reminscent of the hair styling on Prada's a/w10 catwalk. But even these styling touches failed to rescue such a dire dress, a shame, because Coleen's looking trim and healthy (whatever's going on in her private life). What are your opinion on the red carpet dresses from the event?

I have to admit, I was slightly disappointed when Samantha Cameron announced she pregnant earlier this year during the General Election Campaign. And before you ask, it’s not because I fancied Nick Clegg (although I did and still do) and couldn’t stand the positive PR her pregnancy gifted the Tory’s campaign. No, it’s actually because I am massive Sam Cam fan, and what’s more I adore her fashion sense; however, without causing massive offence to pregnant ladies, baby bumps and high fashion rarely go hand in hand. And just as I feared, Sam Cam's burgeoning baby bump confined her to the safety of empire line dresses for the rest of the campaign, which may be tasteful and demure, but are also downright boring.

Anyway the good news is, beautiful baby Florence has joined the world and Samantha is well and truly back on her sartorial game. She has pulled some great outfits out the bag at the Tory Party conference in Birmingham this week, most notably this lovely Paul Smith dress from his A/W 2010 collection with pink water rose print detailing. Whilst Samantha tends to wear more accessible fashion from top end high street brands like such as Reiss, Zara and LK Bennett, it's still great to see Britain's leading lady wearing a great British designer.

HOT LOOKS FROM ACROSS THE CHANEL

Chanel's highly anticipated S/S/11 show took place in Paris today, and whilst the show itself was another monochrome masterpiece that only the legendary Karl Lagerfield could concieve, off the catwalk celebrity guests Lily Allen and Keira Knightly made the style statements that grabbed the headlines.

Both Allen and Knightly are celebs who, in the past, have been criticised by the fashion media for their less-than-conventional approaches to fashion. Whilst both girls never fail to look fabulous at red carpet events, away from media glare Lily is berated for her 'chav chic' styling, whilst Keira's casual, laid-back approach to fashion has been branded sloppy.

However, both girls were polished to perfection at the Chanel show today, Lily demonstrating exactly how to do maternity chic in structural chanel boucle wool jacket and shift, whilst Keira channeled the Bright Young Things in a drop-waisted twenties inspired dress that complemented her sleek bob perfectly.

Parisian style may be considered to be the epitome of good taste, but Allen and Knightley prove us Brit girls certainly know how to rock the look.

First of all I'd like to begin this blog by apologising for neglecting Lafashionfolie blogspot- unfortunately after a long day in the office my brain tends to disintegrate to mush, and I've been avoiding blogging for fear of publishing pieces that are both nonsensical and incoherant.

Anyway, I wanted to share my new found appreciation with you for a colour I have long neglected and suddenly now desire more than any other primary or secondary shade.. I just can't get enough of khaki green.

Perhaps I'm slightly biased as it's also my surname, but green is a colour I am really inspired by at the moment, and in shades of military-inspired khaki, it has an urban, youthful feel that is so very appropriate for now. Plus khaki also carries the added bonus of being versatile and practical as it can be pared with most colours and works with both pale and dark skin tones.

So all hail Brit actress Gemma Arterton who bravely road-tested the trend at the premiere of her new flick Tamara Drewe this week, paring her stunning Gucci sheath dress with the most minimal of make-up and understated hair. Of course working a trend such as this is easy when you're as fresh-faced and downright gorgeous as Gemma, but I am a strong believer that the natural look is always fresher and more youthful than a face fulla' slap. This A/W I am dreaming of purchasing a cape; there is nothing more appealing to me than clothing myself in a garment that is one step away from donning a giant blanket.

Alas, capes aren't the most practical of outerwear, they prevent the wearer from casually slinging a bag over the shoulder, deny excessive arm movement and swamp petite torsos. But nothing exudes solstice chic better than a cape; pared with cosy knee high boots there is no garment quite so apt to don when kicking up crunchy autumn leaves.

On the Rimmel London adverts, Kate Moss and now Georgia May Jagger tell us to buy Rimmel to achieve 'The London Look'. But what exactly is the London look? As a newcomer to the city, I am starting to get a sense of what gaining this coveted badge of honour involves; London girls carry daring trends off with aplomb but without the high gloss polish international fashionistas exude; for example scuffed shoes & unbrushed hair are no style sin.

Here's my attempt at the London girl look:

I'm wearing alot of Primark; both the maxi dress and pleather jacket are Primarni, accessorized with an Urban Outfitters pouch bag, charity shop belt and a Pret soya milk latte- yum!

Whilst I can't profess to knowing much about male fashion; I do have a very stylish boyfriend who is educating me on the sartorial dos and don't for the heterosexual man. He has a very unique sense of style, dressing in the occasional bit of Urban Outfitters, American Apparel and Topman, cleverly avoiding looking like a Topman clone by combining these high street picks with charity shop and TK Maxx designer finds. If I had the budget, I would love to buy him a bit of designer though, although he probably wouldn't approve of my choices.

Here are my top picks of menswear designer pieces that seperate the boys from the men:

1. Belstaff Rally Master 350 Jacket in Perl Black, £350 available from Pockets.co.uk here.

£350 may seem steep, but this Belstaff jacket is a design classic that will never go out of fashion. From a practical point of view it's also a jacket for men unafraid to brave the elements and go out in the worst of weathers; Belstaff make this jacket from their specialist hydrophillic nylon that combats even the hardiest storm conditions.

2. Hackett Classic British Duffle Coat, £485 available from Pockets.co.uk here.

Pick number two is also a coat: I must have coats on the brain, but you can hardly blame me with the awful week of weather we're experiencing. This is a duffle coat however, and not the sort you see on trainspotters, but a fabulous Hackett Classic British Duffle Coat in a wool and cashmere blend. There's something frightfully British about the duffle coat, possibly because Paddington Bear became synonymous with the style. But the English Heritage look is now the height of style for chic gents, and the duffle nails the look in one.

NICOLA ROBERTS & DREW BARRYMORE'S FASHION HITS

..I'm back up and blogging again! To explain my absence for those of you that don't know, I've relocated to London to work in the head office of an international luxury jewellery brand, and things have been pretty hectic since! Not to mention the fact I haven't had internet for ages. But I'm back and plan to blog regularly, totally inspired by all the amazing fashion I am seeing in London.

Talking of amazing fashion, two gorgeous fashion icons, Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud and Hollywood A-lister, Drew Barrymore, have been out and about looking fabulous this week. First up, Nicola hit Harrods department store to launch her make-up range designed especially for pale-skinned girls, Dainty Doll. Nicola's quirky outfit combined an on-trend nude maxi skirt pared with a casual grey marl tee and a super-cute bow necklace. Nicola's known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to fashion, and I think this unusual ensemble looks fresh and modern.

Proving you can still be quirky and polished at the same time, Drew Barrymore was photographed looking stunning in this metallic strapless gown at the premiere of her new film, 'Going the Distance' held in LA last night. Drew pared her show-stopping dress with grey platform courts and glamorous gold accessories. But her bang-on-trend grown out blonde highlights ensured the look didn't look too perfect, oozing that ever-present sense of cool we've come to expect from Drew.

No longer just a summer staple, the maxidress looks set to continue as a major trend for A/W 2010. And the 'winter maxi' is a look that I can't wait to try out, mainly because I hate being cold in winter and plan to slip on thermal tights underneath- who cares when you can't see them?! POLO FASHION

Cartier's International Polo day, held at the Guards Polo Club in Berkshire yesterday, was attended by a plethora of celebs, all out to impress in the style stakes. Here's my thoughts on the style winners and losers of the day.

Operatic star Katherine Jenkins cleverly opted to wear hessian wedge sandals, avoiding the classic stiletto-stuck-in-the-mud-scenario that so many women fall foul of at grass-based events. Although this was a good choice, I'm not convinced her dress works with the hessian shoe and raffia bag combo, the dress demands luxe accessories in my opinion; perhaps a nice metallic wedge would have worked better.

Next up was Geri Halliwell in an eye-poppingly tight Herve Leger dress paired with a blingtastic Louis Vuitton holdall and metallic platform court shoes. There's no denying Geri has the figure to wear this dress, she's in fantastic shape. However, once again I feel it's the accessories that let the look down; the LV monogrammed bag is far to large, a neat clutch would have looked less ostentacious. And the gold sheen of the shoes clashes with the metallic pewter of the bag.

In comparision to Katherine and Geri, TV presenter Cat Deeley looked positively dressed-down in relaxed printed maxi dress with a distinct 70s vibe. I think the look is sweet and pretty, but perhaps a little un-exciting. She's lacking some of the LA glamour that I've come to expect from Cat recently.

CHARITY SHOP CHIC

As my only source of income at the moment is my jobseekers allowance, charity shops have become have become my saviour, being one of the few ways I can get my hands on new clothes. I picked up these A-line shorts from a charity shop for £2.49 on Monday, and I'm really rather pleased with them. A-line shapes are very flattering and are set to be big news come Autumn, plus the beige colourway taps into this season's safari trend. I have plans to wear these with a black blazer, tights and ballet pumps for my forthcoming job interview on Monday.. but even if I do get the job (and subsequently some spending money), the charity shop habit is here to say!

OFF THE HUQ

Sorry if I have induced any cringes with the pun in the title of this blog! However, I have to commend Konnie Huq for her recent (and long overdue) style makeover. Konnie is one of those highly pretty women who gets it wrong in the style stakes regularly; but then she is a Cambridge-university educated, Blue Peter stalwart, so to analyse her style would be quite patronising when style doesn't really come into children's TV. However, her recent recruitment as the host of The X-tra Factor seems to have encouraged to Konnie to take an interest in fashion, unsuprising really when the show is somewhat of a televisual fashion parade; and I have to say she's looking great.

Yesterday she was spotted at the X Factor auditions in a great little polka dot number, also seen last week on Kelly Brook. Pared with vertigous heels and a colour co-ordinated hair grip she really was a picture of girly loveliness. I expect that by the time we reach the live X-Factor shows in October, Konnie may well have reached fully-fledged style icon status.

ps. How weird is it that she's dating Guardian coloumnist & TV presenter Charlie Brooker? Now that really is off the Huq behaviour! (ouch)

THE NEW FASHIONISTAS

I'm in search of some fresh style icons at the moment; Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Cheryl Cole- their respective style's really don't do it for me anymore, so it's on to sartorial pastures new. Here are two stylish celebs currently inspiring me to revitalise my look and try out the latest trends:

1.Diana Vickers
Diana must have a great stylist behind her, whilst she's always had a quirky sense of style, Vickers didn't always hit the right notes when she rose to fame on the X-Factor 2008, lacking the polish most teenage girls struggle to achieve. But her recent chart success has been accompanied by a pitch-perfect slick yet quirky new image that I can't help but envy. With her butter-wouldn't-melt angelic looks, she manages to pull off racey looks, like the above, looking cool rather than trashy. To get that signature Diana look, keep your hair and make-up natural and offset quirky dresses with fabulous heels and lots of leg.

2. Emma Watson
Emma Watson has a innate sense of natural style and and class that makes her every clothing designer's dream muse. My favourite festival look of 2010 so far has to be Emma's amazing Louis Vuitton corset and denim short combo, it was so unexpected and daring wearing a highly expensive designer corset to Glastonbury, but accessorized with the an on-trend side plait, the gamble really paid off. Also note how Emma has cleverly colour co-ordinated her look with her new squeeze, One Night Only's George Craig's festival get up (wish my boyfriend would allow me to do such things!)

There's no bigger treat than afternoon tea in my opinion; this year for my birthday my sister treated me to a sumptious afternoon of tea in the fabulous Bar 190, located in the Gore Hotel in London, where I ate the most delicious roasted vegetable sandwiches (with the crusts cut off, naturally) I have ever consumed. I can't think of a better way to celebrate my love for the British past time of taking tea than to wear this fabulous 'Margaret' leather cuff, complete with adorable teapot charm, fresh out of Mulberry's A/W 10 collection. Just looking at some of images from John Galliano's couture show for Christian Dior that took place in Paris today and to be honest, I'm lost for words; no superlatives can describe just how much I rate this collection. Galliano told press at the show he was 'having a floral moment', but unlike the floral printed fashions flooding the high street this summer, Galliano's dresses literally took the form of upturned wildflowers in bloom, with giant 'petals' and carnation-inspired ruffles. Some of the outfits were accessorized by celephone head pieces designed by milliner Stephen Jones, evoking visions of celephone wrapped bouquets fresh from the florist (although they also had a hint of the quality street about them too!) Fittingly, Galliano was inspired by the beautiful blooms found in the garden at Christian Dior's childhood home in Les Rhumbs, Normandy, when designing the collection.

For me, Galliano's show once again proves that haute couture has a place to play in today's fashion industry; who could fail to be inspired by such a vibrant vision of beauty? If I'm not dressed as a human tulip next S/S, I will be severely dissapointed!

LULA LOVES

...Has anyone heard of Lula magazine before? I have to admit I haven't, but I've just stumbled across the title after spotting a collaboration between Harvey Nichols and the aforementioned on harveynichols.com. Anyway, the partnership is nothing short of a match made in heaven; to put it simply this has to possibly be the most beautiful collection of fashion and accessories I have ever seen in my life! Highlights of the range include dresses designed by Erdem, Sonia Rykiel and Rodarte; eye-boggling, bedazzling, sparkly shoes by Miu Miu, and a seriously covetable, delicious plum velvet skirt (pictured above) by a new designer to me, Rachel Antonoff.

Alongside pieces that ooze sheer femininity sit super-cool Rodarte logo tees and sweaters in casual grey marl. Everything in the range has been selected by the Lula magazine team to enable Harvey Nichols' customers to buy into the Lula look, which I gage to be an exciting combination of overtly feminine pieces, (that wouldn't look out of place in a episode of mad men) pared with the odd quirky logo tee in an un-expected, delightful twist. The shapes too, are very current, a-line flared mini skirts and 50s style shift dresses in skater shapes look so fresh and youthful. SUMMER STYLE IN THE BAG

Grazia's summer fashion guides have educated me about the common sartorial error witnessed at this time of year: when easy, breezy summer outfits are ruined with an inappropriate choice of handbag. A simple mistake you may think; but the wrong tote, clutch or satchel can prove disasterous in the summer style parade.

Anything vaguely diaphanous cannot stand up to the challenge of heavy, structured or leather handbag; and if your choice of tote is a combination of all three then woe betide you! Instead Grazia recommends pairing your maxi dresses and floaty numbers with fabric statement totes, raffia baskets or cute canvas satchels with leather detailing. RED ALERT

It's about this time of year, just as summer is peaking and the weather is hotting up, that I start to crave new trends and get excited about a/w fashion. Backwards, I know. Truth is, I am a winter dresser at heart, I much prefer snuggly scarfs, boots and cosy layers to skimpy summer dresses and sandals.

Anyway, I'm super excited for this autumn winter, because the new trends look so exciting and fresh. One trend currently being touted by Vogue and modelled by fashion-forward celebs that I can't wait to give a try is the calf length skirt/ dress. Calf or 'midi' length skirts, as Vogue likes to call them, emerged as a big trend on the pre-fall catwalks. Artfully paired with ankle boots, chunky socks and sleek knitwear on the Bottega Veneta runway, the calf length is big news.

Even more exciting for me is the return of the colour red to the height of fashion; mark my words, come September red will be everywhere. It was seen on the catwalks of Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and in the pre-fall Valentino collection, notably the first airing of the label's signature colour since Valentino himself left the label five seasons ago, handing design control over to Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Pablo Piccoli (what amazing names!). Pairing red dresses with red shoes and red tights, the label's message couldn't be any stronger: red is back, and it's here to stay.

AWARD WINNING FASHION?

I'm just checking out the first pictures of the red carpet dresses from the BAFTAs and if I'm honest, I'm underwhelmed. Saying that, at least I'm not completely horrified like I was looking through the tangoed, tack-fest that was this years soap awards. That's a harsh & highly bitchy comment I know, but it's not as if the cast members of most soaps can't afford a stylist. They just chose to forgo one for some reason, styling themselves with disasterous results.

Anyway back to tonight's proceedings, and my favourite tabloid star of all time, Katie Price, arrived in a black taffeta statement ballgown. Whilst I am appreciating Price's recent attempts to tone down her glamour girl look, I do wish she'd stop wearing black. Against her dark hair and botoxed face, black looks very harsh, and in all honestly brings to mind visions of a wicked witch- which is exactly the kind of PR Katie doesn't need at the moment! But hey, you have to admire the way she completely ignores fashion trends and just wears what she fancies.

Wearing black much more successfully was ex-Coronation street actress Suranne Jones. I suspect this two-tear is by Halston Heritage, the 'it' label of the moment thanks to SATC 2, in which Carrie models 6 dresses by the brand. Suranne gets it right here; I like her embellished clutch and statement earrings, she added just the right amount of accessories in my opinion.

Another sartorial winner was ex-Eastender Kara Tointon, who looked positively goddess-like in this Grecian white gown. Shame about the mahogany tan, but the delicate accessories and chic updo rescue the look.

TOP MARCS FOR THE BEACH

I have a secret penchant for cutesy, slightly tacky designer garb; in the darkest depths of my wardrobe back home there even lurks a genuine Juicy Couture terry towling turquoise dress. (cringe). Slightly less tacky but no less cutesy are my collection of Marc by Marc by Jacobs hairgrips, that make me look positively pre-pubescent; a look that doesn't come cheap at £30 a hairgrip.

So it's perhaps no suprise I'm lusting after this gorgeous Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S09 beach set, currently on sale on theoutnet.com for a cool £137.50, reduced from £275.

The set comes complete with a beachbag, a cotton sunhat, mj branded flipflops and beach towel, all decorated with Marc Jacobs quirky cartoon prints. Ok, so it's not exactly chic, but it's definitely cute; who says beachwear should be serious anyway? The set's available here for those that share in my love for all things cutesy.

Gingham has to be the ultimate summer fabric for me; it has a whimsical, innocent quality that looks so appropriate in summer. Gingham was always going to be a key trend this season after Christopher Kane sent it down his S/S catwalk; re-inventing the look with provocative cutaway panels.

Of course you do have to be careful how you style gingham, else you could end up looking like this:

No offence to the Dorothy's, but the gingham milkmaid dress is a garment that should be reserved soley for Andrew Lloyd Webber productions.

My favourite gingham piece that I've spotted so far this season is this sheer longline shirt from Asos.com, £25. Tuck the shirt into cropped trousers or wear loose over this season's shorts for a look that's bang on trend and miles away from an Andrew Lloyd Webber protege.

I want to share my latest shoe purchase with you; as I am currently completely enamoured with them. I wanted some chunky, clumpy, Chloe-esque wooden heeled shoes to take on holiday with me, and having trawled the highstreet I spied some amazing pairs that were way over my budget in the wonderful Kurt Geiger. I've only just discovered the wonder of KG, but now I can see why their shoes send grown women weak at the knees. What I really wanted were these babies, however, one glance at the eye-watering £160 price tag soon killed that dream.

So I trawled through the Kurt Geiger website for cheaper alternatives; and came across a pair of chunky sandals reduced to £25 from £75, by a brand called 'Easy Spirit'. Anyway annoyingly I had to trek out of Huddersfield to pick them up, because stupid Parcelforce took them to the post office in an area on the outskirts of town called 'Moldgreen' (yes, I'm not kidding). Trekking back to town I had my fingers crossed they were worth the time and energy, but I need not have worried, they are just perfect!

They are very comfy and excellent quality leather and the honey-colour will go with everything in my summer suitcase, so the mission has been accomplished!

MEADHAM KIRCHOFF AT TOPSHOP

Meadham Kirchhoff's new colloboration with Topshop has launched on Topshop.com today and I can't stop drooling over it. Meadham Kirchhoff is the label run by design duo Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff, who met whilst studying at St Martin's school of art. Their latest Topshop collaboration features a simple palette of black and nude tones. However the addition of glittery polka dots to jersey and chiffon t-shirts is what really caught my eye, my inner 5 year old loves a bit of multi-coloured glitter, and some how Meadham Kirchhoff pull off the impossible of making glitter look cutting-edge and cool. My favourite piece is definitely this simple jersey tee, priced £55. I'd wear it with leggings and ballet flats for day and then tuck it into a neat high waisted skirt for night. Model-of-the-moment Lara Stone (who appears in the S/S ad campaigns for Jaeger and Louis Vuitton amongst others) married comedian David Walliams today in a swish old ceremony at Claridges in London. The lovely (sarcasm) readers over at DailyMail.co.uk have been quick to condemn the celebrity union, saying it will never last, however, I'm purely posting this picture taken post ceremony to ogle the gorgeous Lara in her fabulous gold minidress! Talk about a knock-out body! I'm not sure if this is the outfit she wore for the actual ceremony, and I'm presuming not, but it certainly makes statement for the wedding breakfast. I also don't know who designed this little number either, but if anyone knows please gives me the heads up!

In other news I've had a pretty eventful week myself, on Thursday I did my first day interning in the fashion department at The Yorkshire Post, and ended up having a piece published in the culture section the very next day! It was all a bit lucky really, I arrived at the office and started off working with Vickie Jackson, who was also interning, to sort through lookbooks for Fashion ed, Stephanie Smith. However, Nick Ahad, who writes for the culture section desperately needed a feature to fill the culture page that day and ended up getting Vickie and I to write a piece. I had to do several telephone interviews and work to a very tight deadline and the whole thing was tres stressful but an amazing learning experience!

Then on Friday I found out I had been picked to showcase Seamless magazine at Graduate Fashion Week, which is a very exciting prospect. The magazine will be entered into the ‘New Technology’ competition and although I’m definitely not expecting to win, it will be an amazing experience to showcase my work alongside some amazing creative graduates. So thank you to everyone that helped me make Seamless a reality once again. Gawd I’d better work out what to wear for Graduate fashion week now, that’s the next dilemma!

GEMMA ARTERTON AT THE PRINCE OF PERSIA PREMIER

Gemma Arterton's red carpet look can be quite hit and miss in my opinion; she loves a vampish heel and a mini dress, and whilst she has the body to work the look, I can't help longing to see her prettier side. Which is why I'm thrilled to see her looking quite so delicious at the Prince of Persia premiere in this wonderful Valentino strapless dress. The gown is embroidered with thousands of silver beads and in this season's nude colour that looks so delicate and fresh against a pale complexion. Teamed with the red lipstick and a chic up do, Arterton really has the markings of an old school Hollywood actress in this gown. Occasionally I get told I look Gemma which I absolutely LOVE. Hmm wonderful if Mr Valentino has anymore gowns he's willing to lend out to pale skinned brunettes...?

Sat in the library hand in morning doing some last minute printing-I don't know what it is about me however hard I work I always seem to work right up until the last minute. Anyway I am just about done now so that feels very good!

I have done an evaluative essay of my project in my diary, however as blogging has been a major part of my project is only seems right to do one here- dont worry it won't be an essay though!

Overall I have loved making Seamless magazine; I know there is a belief that if you spend too long on a project it can put you off ever doing something similar again, however Seamless has only made me love fashion editorial that little bit more. My magazine will also be a great addition to my portfolio and something real to show employers in interview.

I am very proud of the making the magazine I dreamed up last November a reality, I know I have had plenty of setbacks and stresses and there are areas I would like to improve on given more time but I think that's the nature of a project where you as an individual set the workload.

So I am bidding a fond farewell to Seamless, it has been a lot of fun in the making!

Progress rep ort for the past two days on what I have been doing: mainly PANICKING!

1 week to go and my uni career will be over which will be a joy, I'm so bored of Huddersfield.

However, 1 week also = pressure and I have loads to do still. I'm just finishing my market report today then laying it out tomorrow, I could go on writing it forever, market reports can be any length you desire but I am going to finish on 6,000 ish words for my sake and my tutors! My report recommends that Seamless banner advertises online so I did some very basic banner designs on Monday. I also sent the banner for my exposition (all these banners are getting confusing!) to the printers and I'm collecting that today because with it being around deadline time there is a 48 hr wait on printing cripes! So that gives me enough time to beg Loz to make alterations in case anything prints drastically wrong. Yesterday I continued with my report and did my gantt chart of my promotions, it actually looks quite well done which is a shocker since I have the graphic design skills of a 5 year old! I also visited the lovely Dunelm mill in the desperate hope they would have a box that fits the measurements to put everything in (it's in the brief) but they didn't so I am slightly annoyed I am going to have to go to all the faff of covering the tacky flower print one I bought from ikea with fabric. Annoying!

Off to Loz's house again Friday to complete the magazine, we have 3 articles left to layout now. It's gonna be none stop til next week !

My Seamless badges are here and I love them! Nice quality finish too, I can highly recommend Awesome Merchandise for all your printing needs! These cost me £16 for 50 which is not too pricey either.

I am absolutely shattered today because Loz and I had a very hard working day yesterday working on my banner and magazine. In my final critique my boards were criticised for being a bit clumsily laid out so I recruited Loz (my graphic designing boyfriend) to help me lay out the information in a more visually pleasing manner. We completed it yesterday, it looks good although my brain had a bit of meltdown because I have been writing copy everyday for some part project and literally can't work out what sounds good/ what doesn't anymore. Mental meltdown!!

I'm just doing layouts today to give me a break from writing. Magazine is allllmost done we laid out the beauty page yesterday so there is literally the editors page, contributors page and a few tweaks of photoshoot layout 1 to go. Plus proof reading which I will be doing all week. Reflecting on the project now it's nearly done, it was definitely a good idea changing my project to do an online magazine at the early stage in the day. I've loved putting together the magazine and found areas of the project very exciting; such as seeing my magazine hosted online. I'll never get bored of looking at it, I feel very proud! Couldn't have done it without Loz either, he is a superstar!

Last minute magazine dilemmas

Had a couple of last minute dilemmas with my magazine content this week. First of all I was trying to put together a beauty page and had hoped to do a photoshoot in the studio on Monday. However, my organisation was all a bit last minute, my friend Rachel was going to model and her coursemate Corrine who also works as a make-up artist in Selfridges was going to do the make up, but to be fair I left it a bit last minute to organise it all because I think sorting my exposition took centre stage. So Corrine couldn't make the proposed studio time (she's is a crazily busy person!) I also tried taking some of my own pictures of nail polishs in my flat but it's so hard to get the lighting right (it has to be bright but you can't use a flash because it reflects off the bottle) they just looked pants! So instead I've improvised a bit and just downloaded lots of product shots from Prshots.com to make into a make shift advertorial page for ASOS beauty. I've picked products that look pretty and vintagey and gone along that sort of theme instead.

Also my other dilemma is my contributors page. At the moment unfortunately most of my contributors aren't getting back to me with answers to the sentences I blogged about a few days ago. So far Kay, my illustrator is the only person who has responded. This is annoying but the whole challenge of this project is to project manage so I am trying to think on my toes and come up with a back-up plan.

Final ever tutorial..

I kept my final tutorial quite quick today.. A wise decision? Not sure. But I don't work well with pressure, I tend to panic and do rubbish work so I just don't feel like I can make any massive changes to Seamless at such a late stage in the day. Plus I feel confident in the direction it's going, I've just got alot more hours to put in!

Louise advised me to physically write any press releases I refer to in the body of my report, so I am planning to do my press release for the trade press now. She also advised me to print my blogposts off so that they can physically mark them which is a good idea because I will be able to annotate blogs to show how the feedback I've recieved from those of you that helped me has aided my project development.

On the subject of developments, I am very excited because I paid to get some badges printed with this company last night, let's hope they are as awesome as promised! I've paid for two designs, one with the magazine logo and one with one of the figures Kay illustrated for my magazine. I don't expect to pick up any extra marks from having badges on display, I just remember how people had them on their stands when I went to see the final FMP show last year, and how it was a nice touch seeing people pick up and wear the badges and interact with projects.

Facebook promotions

Today as well as continuing with my marketing report (it feels like a never ending task this one!) I have set up a facebook page for Seamless as part of promotions for the magazine. I was stuck for ideas on how to promote Seamless to readers for a long time, but my sister, on her way home from a food magazine launch herself (and slightly drunk off the free gin!) provided the answer for me not so long ago. She suggested an online launch complete with voucher codes for money off discounts from Seamless' advertising partners. It's a great idea because online launches are low cost (much lower cost than a physical event) and have a much wider reach, extending to people on a global scale. Since I last logged my progress I have been busy getting my teeth stuck into my marketing report. I'm also putting the finishing touches to my magazine, I've decided to do a contributor's page to acknowledge all the lovely people who've helped me on Seamless, plus as a magazine reader I always find contributors pages interesting, seeing whose made a magazine happen. I've decided to ask each contributor a couple of questions about online fashion, as the magazine is focussed on online shopping it sets the tone of the magazine aswell as producing some quirky answers that reveal alot about the person. I've asked each contributor to fill in the following sentences..

I've read alot about how social networking is the future for brands, as it allows them to get feedback from consumers and also creates conversations with consumers and makes them feel as if they belong to the brand rather than that they're being preached too. Very excited to be able to post a couple of print screens from my magazine which is uploaded to issuu.com but unfortunately passworded because I have just scanned in a load of adverts which is technically illegal. Anyway, here's a layout from the photoshoot I styled, photographs by Hannah, modelled by Libby and assisted by Adele. This is just the first page. Let me know what you all think. I hope Loz and I have done Hannah's work justice.

This is another print screens of an article I wrote and sourced images for that Loz then laid out. Thank you to Jennie for recommending PR shots to me, it came in very handy! Lots of useful high-res images.

Through doing all this I have really learnt how much I love doing magazine work- especially the writing bit. And styling was fun but actually alot more difficult than I realised.

I have spent the last 2 days post crit working on my marketing report. I didn't get the best grade for the marketing report I handed in after Christmas (a C, 1 mark off a B.. not so good) so I really want this one to be alot better.

Final ever crit today, which is fantastic! Although there was lots of feedback to take on board and lots of changes to make to the project.

I was very pleased I had positive feedback on my magazine name and strapline after all the deliberation, focus groups and brainstorming it took to get there. Had a minor panic attack that the online magazine pages wouldn't load properly in the exposition room, but luckily it turned out it was the software on my computer that was lacking rather than issuu.com.

My tutors discussed my display boards with me, which I admit need alot of work and were a last minute jobby. The overall feedback was that the typography didn't work and that the boards needed something to tie them together graphically. I am considering incorporating some of the graphic design elements of the layouts Loz did for me into the boards to tie them all together.

My task this week however is to complete my marketing report and get it really tight and well-written. Busy busy!

Progress update for 08/04/10- 09/04/10

I forgot to mention that I have been searching for a table for exposition (the final show) and it may sound sad but I am excited to report it has arrived and is amazing!!! It's a light as a feather laptop stand that folds down to fit into a laptop bag, who knew these things existed!

I say this because everything in the final show has to fit into a box that measures 55x44x18 (i think those are the measurements) and I didn't think a table that tall would fold to fit in that existed- but I found the perfect randomn one-off on online. It will allow people to walk up to the stand and have a flick through the mag which is what I am encouraging them to do. I want lots of interaction with my exposition (if I make the show..) because interaction is a great way of getting people interested in a product. So many new ways of promoting fashion involve interaction these days.

This Thursday and Friday was spent working with my graphic designer on the magazine. We laid out two more articles and inserted all the ads into the magazine pages. It looks good, but it has a bit to go. So busy busy!

Off to write some marketing report now, strangely therapeutic!! xx

Adding up

I've had quite a productive evening choosing and sourcing the adverts to go in Seamless. I've been looking to select adverts by high street retailers that would appeal to my target audience: 18-25 year old fashion loving females. I have been selecting ads that have a high-end feel to them, as opposed to the cheap and cheerful style of advertising employed by some retailers. So New Look for example is a no-no, their ads tend to about selling a bargain rather than aspirational photography and styling. So far I've chosen ads by Rimmel (Georgia May Jagger is the new face and looks a-mazing), American Apparel (fun photography, out there fashion) Topshop, Kurt Geiger and French Connection.

I love the humourous new French Connection ads by the way, it's interesting to see fashion brands such as French Connection and Diesel incorporating humour into their advertisments this season. Humour allows fashion brands to humanise their images and can often be very successful in fashion ad campaigns. Some of my favourite fashion ads of all time for example were the fun shots Marc Jacobs took of Victoria Beckham a couple of years back, they still make me titter today hehe!
